Direct fit bolt in replacement cat converter.

I did not pass CA smog with this cat. Every other conceivable fix was tried. Replace product with one sold by BSP. Car passed smog immediately afterwards. Don't know if I'm unlucky or if they are using the wrong type. Seems inconceivable for them to have custom flanges welded on and use the wrong type of cat.

Direct bolt on catalytic converter for 1.6 M1 miata. Product bought from www.discountconverter.com for $108 plus shipping (less than $10 UPS ground). Unit came in a few days with all the gaskets, bolts, nuts and washers.

After reading a post at miataforum, decided to buy it since it was $50 cheaper than any other direct bolt on converter advertised. The unit looks to be good quality but I have no basis for comparison except the 10 year old stock converter. Paid $20 at local muffler shop to have installed. The guy was so impressed that he made me write down their phone number so he can order it for his other customers. The fit was almost perfect. There was a gap of about 1/2" but there's enough play room on my stock exhaust to compensate (it didn't interfere with the cannon I have on).

I think it is a good product at an awesome price. I don't know why a converter has to cost $200 (is it the precious metal thats inside)? If someone claims that their converter is "high flow". Make them prove it with a dyno plot (make sure the numbers aren't inflated with headers and exhaust). Otherwise, save yourself $50 and get this unit.
