Hondata intake manifold heat insulating gasket

[7/25/2009] Reviewed by: Evan Bedford - wyddfa23@telus.net

Designed to insulate the intake manifold from the heat given off by the engine. The resulting cooler air is denser and thus has more oxygen to aid in combustion (as I understand it).

Installation took me about 4 hours. A lot of hoses need to be removed and some of the bolts are hard to get to. But the instructions are pretty thorough. I didn't come up against any brick walls. The ad states that the product gives a 5% power increase. I don't have access to a dyno, but I do keep very meticulous records of my fuel economy. (In terms of overall gains, I assume that gas mileage is a fairly decent proxy for measuring increased HP, even if there isn't a 1:1 correlation). Under very similar driving conditions (highway driving in B.C.), I found that I got an increase of 2 to 3 mpg. I assume that this was mostly due to the gasket, however I also installed a TDR header heatshield at the same time, so some extra efficiencies could have come from the heatshield as well.

Generally, I'm very please with the results. And as an added benefit, the cooler manifold makes removing the oil filter easier when changing the oil.

Over 30 minutes to remove completely
