Mazdaspeed Exhaust

[10/29/2007] Reviewed by: John Moore - johnm@shockplate.com

Applicable to: '99-'05 1.8 liter

Oval shaped stainless steel muffler with 4" slanted outlet with the Mazdaspeed logo.

This is a great product (if you can get your hands on one) installed by my friends at the one and only R-Speed. With the first-class mechanics at R-Speed, installation was 30 minutes or less. This exhaust has been on my 99 10 AE for about 2 years now and I have loved it since day one. It's got a nice bassy tone, much louder than stock but not too loud, it certainly stands out from the crowd. It has a real throaty sound at WOT, and a nice burble effect during deceleration. Throttle response wakes up noticeably, though power gains are minimal with the exhaust alone. Pair it up with an intake and header for a normally aspirated vehicle and you may see some HP gains.

I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a much improved exhaust note and throttle response. I believe there are some knock-offs of this exhaust, and as other comments have stated, make sure to look for the Mazdaspeed logo on the cannister itself, and the etched logo on the tip as well.

Mazdaspeed Exhaust

This is the mazdaspeed exhaust available from mazda dealers. It is a catback system that is polished to a mirror-like finish. With the mazdaspeed logo etched on the tip. It is smaller in size than the oem muffler. And also slightly lighter in weight.

I would have to say the quality of this product is top notch. The installation was simple. I bought this mainly for a louder exhaust sound than stock. Overall the car a little louder. But alot deeper sounding than before. I would say the power increase is minor. But it does seem to rev easier than before.

I would recommend this part to anyone. It looks and sounds great. It is very bassy at about 2300k rpm. I have had it on my car for about 2 months now. And I like it more and more as time goes on. Also do not confuse this exhuast with other mazdaspeed exhuasts. Some look like a regular miata exhaust. But feature a mazdaspeed tip. This is not like that at all. This has a smaller muffler and is round and not oval.
