Sola Shift Knob (From RSpeed)

Spun aluminum shift knob. Very solid and sturdy.

RSpeed send me the wrong insert for the knob. But when I called them they were very friendly and apologetic. The new insert was rushed to me via UPS.

I installed this today after removing my cheep aftermarket knob (Vibrant performance) the Sola knob is about 1inch shorter than the previous aftermarket knob. Shifts are crisp and quick. The knob fits my hands comfortably and seems the perfect size. A great mod for someone on a budget who wants a shorter shift throw.

Sola Luna Satin Stainless Shift Knob

Satin spun-stainless shift knob, polished very nicely.

This is by far the best knob I've ever felt! It's light, which allows quick throws and great feel for the transitions. The delrin insert (included) transmits NO vibration, and heat/cold transfer isn't bad. The heat from the transmission never gets even close to annoying, and the satin finish prevents it from getting too hot after sitting in direct sunlight during the summer. It sits about 1/4-1/2" lower, so shifts are quicker.

For the price, perhaps the best upgrade I've made; if I wrecked the car, this knob would undoubtedly come away with me in my pocket!

Sola Crinkle Black Knob and Brake Handle and Satin Brake Buttom

One of the first things I wanted to change on the stock 92B I just bought. I really like the feel and after a few days have adjusted to the small and lower shift knob, much easier that adjusting from a S-10 clutch and 5-speed. The brake handle was a breeze, fitting nice and tight without any tape. So far after some days in the sun down here in the south they seem to get no worse than the factory knob and handle. So far I haven't picked up much heat from the tranny, the leather boot gets warmer than the knob.

The folks at R-Speed are real friendly and when I asked about the brake button in chrome they said that they might have a couple satin still left and went looking. They did find one and it looks great, I really like the satin look and glad they took the extra effort. I also added new Brainstorm shift and brake boots and the new leather really works well with the crinkle black and satin. It's nice to have a car that's easy to work on (re:spend money on).

Chrome Sola knob from RSpeed

This is a chrome spherical shift knob that has a Delrin insert that screws into the knob, and then you screw the knob onto the threaded shifter after unscrewing the stock shift knob.

I am VERY happy with the Sola knob, as it fits perfectly and looks great. Also, the insert insulates the knob from heat and vibration.

The knob sits a bit lower than the stock one, but it's not too low so as to make shifting difficult. I considered the Voodoo knobs, but I think this one is a little better because it does not require a collar to bridge the gap between the knob and the shift boot. It's priced right, and the folks at RSpeed are VERY helpful and nice to chat with.

This is a "Voodoo" style round shift knob. It is actually chrome not polished aluminum.

Great product and it's only $40 at rspeed. What more can you ask for. It has lowered my shifter about 1/2 an inch. Makes shifting more fun and looks great to boot!

Anyone looking to purchase a shift knob needs to check out the Sola knobs.

Replacement for cheap looking, uncomfortable OE knob.

Easy to purchase @ about $34, easy to install. RSpeed are very helpful and professional.

Very good looking replacement shift knob that adds a lot to the interior. Perfect fit that integrates completely. Nice, good feel, circumference is just right for me. Fingerprints/marks don't seem to be a problem. First time out, no tranny heat at all. Second time out seemed different. Must wait a few more outings before coming to a conclusion on this important point.

Sola Crackled Black Shift Knob and Brake Handle from Rspeed.

I stumbled onto the Sola line at Rspeed. There wasn't a picture of the crackled black, so I called Rspeed to ask about it. Helpful as always, they told me it was a smooth small crackling. I decided to go for it and ordered the brake handle as well. Within the week they arrived and I hurried to Julie to get them installed. The sola comes with a tru-fit inner bushing that reduces vibration, and Rspeed had preinstalled it in the knob already, so I just had to screw it on. Of course it took a little muscle to break the glue on the brake handle, but with some vise grips and a towel it was easy. I did have to take some electrical tape and wrap one layer down the brake handle before installing the new sola handle to take up the space, but it looks and feels great. Don't let the crackled black name fool you. It is more like a really smooth powder coating than it is crackled. Also the Sola come with a knob ring preinstalled so there is NO gap between the shift knob and the boot.

Could be my imagination but Julie seems much happier with her new knobs, she even shifts smoother. Wait til she sees the boots. I would definitely recommend these items for everyone. They have a few different finishes and also they are not supposed to get really hot in the warm weather. Will have to wait til next summer to let you know about that.

Sola Luna Gearshift Knob (Pearlescent)

A beautiful ball shaped, pearlescent finished shift knob with matching brake lever handle.

The perfect shift knob! Not only does this knob offer shorter shifting throws, but it's beautiful as well. As soon as I purchased the knob from RSpeed I immediately installed it in my car in less than five minutes. The knob comes with a Delrin insert, made especially for the Miata which makes the knob fit snuggly and also acts to remove all vibration from the transmission. I wanted a knob that would compliment my silver '99 but as afraid to buy a chrome or black knob because they have a tendency to get extemely hot in the sun. The clear-coated pearlescent finish does a great job of dissipating heat. The knob fits snuggly against the shift boot and doesn't leave any ugly gaps. The matching brake lever handle is equally as beautiful and really gives the interior a more finished look. I'd definitely recommend the Sola line of products to anyone looking for a knob that improves performance as well as the appearance of their Miata. Thank You RSpeed!
