This is a finished factory spoiler (no longer in production) that I got from Finish Line Performance. Unfortunately it's the wrong color!

First step is to wet sand it down with 400 grit. There were no imperfections, so no filler was needed.

I'm using the DuPont Chroma system because I knew that my car had been resprayed after being keyed by vandals in the past. I called the body shop that did the respray and got the paint code. I'm using the SAME stuff. You still have to color match because there are a lot of variables that affect the color value.

This is a HVLP gun. Wow what a gem. It puts paint ON what you are spraying, not into the air! I should mention that this job is NOT simple and easy. You'll have to do some practice and develop skills to do your own spraying.

Note my high tech spray booth. Three 50 cent drop cloths and a couple of sawhorses. 2 part paints flash quickly and become dust tack free in minutes.

Spraying on the base coat takes a few coats to hide with flash time between each shot. The trick with metallic is to put on enough to get it to flow, but not so much you get a run. It's not hard if the gun is set right and you've practiced. If you mess up, wait for it to dry and sand it off again. Check out how little overspray there is on the horses!

The clear coats go on heavier. Runs can be sanded out later, but it's better to not have them. The coats need to be medium-wet or you'll get orange peel.

I forgot to take a shot, but after it set overnight, I took 2000 grit sandpaper and wet sanded. Then I polished with Meguiars fine-cut followed by swirl remover.

I snapped off the stud in the middle and bought some 3M windshield roll. I left the standard double sided tape, but used the roll inside the tape, pulling it out like taffy. Thanks Mike D. for the tip.

I used DuPont pre-paint solvent to clean off any Zaino or anything else on the deck lid and lip.

Align carefully and press. Once it set in place I pulled the double-sided tape cover and pressed again. That AIN'T coming off. I may add the end clips later, but man it is STUCK, so maybe not.

Dunno what you think, but I think the color match is GREAT!

Now that looks nice, just what I wanted.

Looks fantastic. Note the lenses on the rear are "shaved"? Check out that part of the site too...
