Here's the problem.  I pulled out the sunvisors the same day I bought the car.  What do you do with the holes?  Now Knobmeister makes some nice plugs, but dlmr in the forum suggested LIGHTS!  Now I hear KG Works has a kit.  I did it for less than 3 bucks!  UPDATE:  Nate Ramsey has a very similar install with white lights in the miata.net garage...check it out too!

Unscrew the mount.  Notice it's hollow in there and if you take out the two torx bolts holding the top bracket you can actually run the wire INSIDE the A-pillar.  I took a different route.

I pushed safety wire through here to feed the power wire through.  Note you need TWO strands because the lighting system uses a negative ground switch.  You can't run just a hot lead.

Instead of going inside the pillar (seemed like ASKING for a rattle to me) I went under this nice soft weatherstripping....PLENTY of room!  I pulled the wire through and down the pillar.

Here's where I crossed over from under the weatherstripping to behind the glove box.  Only two screws hold the whole box in.  Take it out!

These bulbs cost a whopping buck ninety-nine!  You can get white, but the amber is VERY nice in the cockpit.

25/64ths.  hehe.  That's what I used!  You can probably get by with 13/32nds, but any bigger and you won't have a friction fit with the bulbs . . . they'll fall out of the holes.

Press it into the fixture.  I left a tiny bit of bulb exposed, but you can recess them if the hole is a bit bigger.

Ok, back to the header.  I left loops on the passenger side and stripped them using a single edged razor.  BE CAREFUL!  Then I wrapped each section around a bulb lead and soldered.  Taped it off.

Here's the driver's side.  I suppose I should mention that you must thread the wires *out the hole* before you solder the wires!

To power the lights put one lead UNDER the screw on the slider.  The other you solder onto the red (+12V) lead seen at the top left of this photo.  If you do it this way, they'll work WITH the normal lights.  I.e., you can have them come on with the doors or switch them on using the manual switch on this light.

My visor plug lights are a COMPLETELY different approach. I wanted something BRIGHT so I could read, or use a map. I mounted tiny, 10 watt halogen brakelight bulbs ($4.50 each, just for the bulbs) in a 1 inch long piece of 5/16ths copper tubing (to dissapate the heat) and friction fit the copper tubing into a slightly enlarged hole in the visor plugs.The bulbs come in at least two different styles.  Mine have a nice round bottom on them, like the 194's Hakuna used.  Some of these bulbs have a little glass tail which sticks down and diffuses the light.  All the bulbs I saw at Walmart have the round bottoms like I used. The bulbs fit a touch loosely inside 5/16ths copper tubing.  When you cut the copper tubing with a tubing cutter, it shrinks the end of it and forms a little flange that the bulb fits against which allows it to stick out of the tubing by just the right amount.  If it stuck out any more, the light would go everywhere  -  Any less, and the light would be a tight beam hitting you just in your lap.  If desired, the bulbs can be sealed into the tubing with a drop of epoxy on the back side.  The wires have to be soldered to the two pins sticking out of the bulb, and I used a little tape around the joint to make sure neither touched each other, or the inside of the tubing.

Since they do get hot, and I wanted to make SURE they would never be on for long periods, (like when you leave the door open) AND I wanted to be able to use them individually (so the passenger could use theirs without completely blinding the driver) I mounted two momentary switches in the blank panel where the power window switches would be. I ran all my wiring (a 5 conductor, 18 guage cable) up the passenger side pillar, and across the top of the windshield, and I have no detectable rattles. My cable is also double insulated, as there's a heavy gray insulation over the bundle of wires. (Actually, it's antenna rotor cable, 4 conductors and a ground shield.) I grounded one wire beneath the a screw which mounts the visor plug.  (If you look closely, you can see the tail of the wire beside the screw in the first picture.)  The other wire runs to the switch, to get 12 volts to light the light. [note from Hakuna: this grounding method will NOT work if you want them to operate via the switched door lights.] These suckers are VERY bright, and completely light up your lap area. You can easily read the fine print on your map, even in the dead of night. INSTANT sunshine! The lights are 891/BP which I got from Walmart for
