This is an In-dash unit rated at 50w peak x 4 channels. It include complete instructions to bridge the channels and have 100w peak x 2. Coupled with a couple of great door speakers and it provides plenty of volume with the top down.
Installation was a snap after I ohmed out all of the factory wires. Even the Miata factory service manual had the colors wrong. While I was at it I put an in-line switch under the dash to disable the power antenna when playing CDs.
I bought this for my son's birthday to stick in his Nissan. Yes, I know it's not a Miata, but a little more practical for college cargo. He came home for spring break and had already bought a new player. Go figure! It was better then the factory cassette in the Miata so I decided to keep it for myself. For an inexpensive unit ($139) it sounds great. Now that I can play MP3s I don't have to change CDs every 45 mins. My only complaint with the unit is the display doesn't use very bold characters making it a little hard to see in sunlight glare. All in all a good deal. My son ended up with a new $180 printer for his birthday, also better than mine. Ha!
