Treadwear rating of 280. Listed as a Ultra High Performance tire. Tread pattern is a "V" shape format. Rim protectors are applied to this tire. Max tire pressure is 44psi.
These are good for the street, but not competive for the track. I set mines at 26psi for the street. Nice and comfy on this setting, but still in the process of tinkering with the perfect setting. I've driven them once in some decent rain, and it was a tad bit better than more half worn Azenis, but I could be wrong, more time in rain would help out to determine what it really can do. I've autocrossed them twice, and set the tire pressure at 35psi all around. I'm thinking of going for 40psi next time, but that depends when my OEM wheels are done, and when I can slap back on the Falken Azenis. One thing positive from these, you learn how to control your car more. I won't hide your mistakes like an R compound or Hoosier would. I would suggest it for a begginer in autocross, but the Azenis would be better. No noise too.
Price is $74 at Tirerack.com........this is a good place to buy from. They have excellent service, and are just plain professionals in their work. They are more than happy to talk to Miata owners!

Yoko replacement for venerable AVS Intermediate in stock 185 60 14 size.
I've had these for 3 months now after about 5 sets of AVSs. The temperature range has been sub-freezing to about 70 here in central PA. I have driven these tires in rain and sun. Well, I had to drive them in the snow after the inspection aaand mounting in Feb.
I drive Underdog to the limit as much as possible and the tires are the most important factor, just ahead of the RB springs and sways and eternal Koni shocks. I loved the AVSs for their fun factor, price and performance. The only problem was the pavement here in PA rarely gets to the scorching temps they require to really grip (especially since global cooling has set in here in the East). Skidding and sliding the rear was just second nature (and became a little annoying), especially in the cold and rain...the ES 100s are great! Sure, the sidewall is a little softer, but the rain performance blows the AVSs away and the overall grip level is higher. I try to do the tail slide U turns (rain and dry) and the rear just won't slide like the AVSs did! I'm still practicing and exploring the limits with these tires...

The Yokohama ES-100 is supposedly one of the best performing tires you can buy for a Miata in the standard size of 185-60-14. These are H-rated directional tires with an aggressive looking tread pattern.
I have been driving on V-rated 185-60-14 Yokohama AVS-Intermediate tires in my '94 miata for the last 20,000 miles. Recently, I was forced to switch to a new line of tires because the AVS-Intermediates have been discontinued. Too bad! I've had these new tires for about a month now and although the ES-100's look more aggressive, they certainly don't handle more aggressive, at least on dry pavement. There is a lot less response with these tires. They seem to flex more, maybe roll over a bit in the turns compared to the AVS-Intermediates. On wet roads however, the difference in performance is amazing. The ES-100's are far superior to my old AVS-Intermediates in the rain.
Overall, the Yokohama ES-100 is a "good" handling tire for everyday driving and the occational twisty road, with excellent handling in the rain. If you have mostly sunny days (like I do here in central California) and you drive like you're Mario Andretti, you might be disapointed. It appears however, that the tire companies have quit making high performance tires in the 185-60-14 sizes. So, if you really want high performance, you're now forced to go to a 15 inch or larger rim to do it. I couldn't find a V or Z rated tire available by any manufacturer in a 185-60-14.

185/60/14 yokohama tires
i had these installed at the tire rack ( in my home town) for about $65 a wheel. great grip in the dry. Not so great in the rain, and like the other guy said DO NOT drive these in the snow.
It was my first season autocrossing this year, and these tires were a great improvement over the old OEM tires they replaced. I am running the stock greddy turbo, and these tires only broke loose off the line if i really dumped the clutch hard. They allowed the back end to swing around nice and smoothly, and are amazing on concrete (like at grissom air force base).

YOKOHAMA ES100 high perfomance tires in the 185/60/14 size.
I just got these on today, and was amazed how much they improved the highway handling. With the old mid-range tires I had before the car was skittish at higher speeds, requiring constant small course corrections. Now it is very stable. I used to be envious of my uncles 99 stability, but no longer. I still have to get it onto a good curvy road to test the true purpose of the tires, but the highway improvement along makes the upgrade worth it.

Z rated Summer tires
Wow. Before the ES100's all I had before was all-seasons. Then with a new job, came more money so I decided to upgrade. I bought some nice lite-weight wheels, and needed some nice performance tires to go along with them. I attended an autocross the first week I had them, and with a turbo-charged Miata, i could not break the rear end loose. I tried. These grip great, and the wear is nominal.
Do not use them in the snow! These are fair weather tires only! Ask me how I know :)

195/60 14 Yokohama ES100.
About 1,500 miles on them so far and I'm quite satisfied - they perform as well as my old set of AVS Intermediates. I haven't driven them hard in the rain, but the wet stoppoing ability seems better than the AVS (not a terrible rain tire itself, btw). I will ceratinly buy these again.
I was reluctant to chage from my AVS Intermediates, but since Yoko phased out the AVS line I didn't have much of a choice. I was especially reluctant to change to the ES100 because of the advertised wet-weather performance - the last time I fell for that I was suckered into a set of Avid H4s (utterly lousy). I'm gald to say that these tire live up to Yoko's claims.

A performance street tire I got from tirerack.com, along with 15-inch OS Racing wheels
These tires are great. I bought my '92 a year ago, shod with all-season off-brand rubber. These wheels/tires are very quiet on the interstate, fantastic in the rain, give the car an aggressive look, and grip almost as good as pure race rubber. My 65 mph shimmy disappeared.
I was worried about milaage, but after 7500 miles, they're doing fine, and have remained quiet and balanced. My only complaint is that the tire stiffens noticeably below 45 degrees F, and produces a rough ride in cold weather. Also as others have noted, if it's white outside, leave the car in the garage. But on sunny or warm wet days, you'll love these tires. Great bang for the buck.

Yokohama AVS ES100 185/60R14 "Ultra High Performance" tires
Highly recommended.
Just installed a set of ES100's to replace my Dunlop D60A2's, which I hated. The Dunlops were either out of round or had non-uniform sidewall stiffness, which caused an annoying shimmy at all speeds. The Yoks cured all that, plus they are quiet and provide crisper handling. The tread pattern looks cool, too.

Sticks like glue. I was running Toyo's, and was getting too much slide. I was shocked by how difficult it is to break the new yokohama's loose.
I am very impressed with the product, and will buy again, probably in 8-10,000 miles!

Yokohama AVS ES 100 195-50-15
The tire has awe inspiring traction in the wet as well as the dry with a predictable break at the limit. It tracks straight and runs eerily quiet at interstate speeds. It is not a race tire but what more could you ask of a ultra high performance street tire.
Unlike most, I get to use my '00 Silver LS for a work ride. I average about 35,000 miles a year in the mountains of North Carolina. Pretty close to heaven. With a wear rating of 280, I expect to get 25-30k miles.(I got 18k from my Toyo T1 Proxes and 30k from my Kumho Ecsta's) Priced in the low $50's from The Tire Rack, this tire is a perfect match to the Miata. Try'em - you will like em.

205/45-16 High Performance Street Tire
I've had Yokohama AVS ES-100's my '01 LS for about 2 months and so far I'm very pleased. They were early replacements for the OEM Bridgestone Turanzas, which I found to be excessively noisy, twitchy and harsh. It was fatiguing to drive long distances on the Bridgestones, especially with the top up since that only seemed to amplify the road noise. I was sick of them after only 8,000 miles and started shopping for replacements. The Yoko's are much quieter on all road surfaces and offer a noticeably more comfortable ride. They are also less inclined to track ruts or depressions in the pavement than the Bridgestones. I'm not an aggressive driver, but I believe the Yoko's corner and handle just as well as the Bridgestones. They look great too, with an unusual and aggressive tread pattern that really stands out. I would recommend the AVS ES-100 to anyone looking for a good value in a low-profile street tire.
I purchased the Yokohamas on-line from the Tire Rack and received great service. I had them installed locally at Maple Grove Tire & Auto, who also did a great job. I paid extra to have the tires "Force Balanced", where the installer positions the tire on the wheel in a manner that achieves the optimum balance and accounts for any local variation in sidewall stiffness. Well worth the money in my book since the tires are rock-steady at all speeds.

Yokohama AVS ES 100 Tires Size:195/60/14
I run this tire on both of my cars.My Miata is a 96.Size 195/60/14 and I run 22 Psi all around. My other Car is a 96 Mitsu GST,Turbo with Stage 3 mods. With normal street driving,I can expect to get about 15K miles out of these tires, assuming periodic air press check, balancing, rotation and alignment.
I'm a tire guy.I've been a racer ( ARCA & Nascar)and the one question I'm asked alot is" What is the most important part of a car?" Well, folks the answer is tires! All of your power & handling is transferred to the track & road thru & by the tires. These tires may not be the best you can buy,for for the average to above average street hot-rodder,I think they are the most bang 4 the buck. Cornering is good and lateral rollout is good for street tires. As with all tires, air pressure can and will make alot of difference.Adjust Psi to suit your driving style & wallet.

195-50-15 tires on older Moda 5 spoke wheels
I Felt the extra unsprung weight as compared to my stock 14 inch alloys and Goodyear Wingfoot 185-60-14 tires. Turn-in crispness was not as good as I had hoped, not even as good as the Wingfoots. Quiet, smooth ride and held good sustained G-force in a constant turn but I prefer quicker turn-in response. If you are looking for tight-quick steering response, then you might want to keep looking.

195/60-14 Yokohama AVS ES100 tires. They were replacement for my Falken Azennis in the same size.
They were great from the start (not as much grip as the Falkens but close). The tread patern looks similar to the Michilen Pilot Sport Cup (so they were awesome in the rain). However, itt looks like I'm only going to get about 10,000 miles out of them (I got 9,000 out of the Falkens). I autocrossed on them once (4 runs), and I beat the ever-loving piss out of the car on a daily basis. So that's why I wear out tires so quickly. So here's my conclusion.... They are better than the old AVS tires by far (I got 7,000 out of them). If you like the Dunlop SP8000 you'll like them... If you like the Falkens but need more rain grip, you'll like them... I'd recomend them to anyone is what I'm saying. They will last a sane driver probably 15-20k miles.
Great tires. The 2nd stickiest dry tire available for the miata (street tire wise). And probably the best in the rain. Go check them out at Tire Rack

195-50-15 Yokohama AVS ES-100 tires
I ordered these tires from Tire Rack. I had them balanced on a Hunter 9700 machine, and mounted on my '01 base. The tire tech said they were near perfectly balanced, took very little weight. My first impressions are very good. They are awesome in the rain. These tires handle as well when they are cool as my Toyo Proxis R-24s did when they were up to temp. I find that I am driving 10 MPH faster than I used to on the same roads when I am not paying attention to the speedo. I good solid feel and good turn in. I don't know about slip angles yet. The only down side is that they are some what slipery in the very cold temps (ambient below 27 deg F). For the price, I could not find a better tire. $52 tire + $9 ship + 10 bal. Best G force for the buck! My buddy switched his Z3 from Pilots to ES-100s and loves them. He said it cost him half the $$ and the handling is tighter.
